Missed the exhibit at HVCA? Many selections from “Walk a Mile in Another’s Shoes” are currently on display at the Highland Township Library.
ENTRY PERIOD ENDED
The Huron Valley Council for the Arts and its partners are now accepting proposals for Walking A Mile in Another’s Shoes Art Exhibit. We are all unique and magnificent human beings with unique backgrounds, diversity, and life experiences. Why bother to get to know someone different than you? The answer may be this simple: Thriving communities celebrate others’ differences regardless of their income, social status, age, gender, or race. It is a strong hope that we are unified as families, business owners, and community leaders within the Huron Valley community through the Unity Project.
The Unity Project stands in solidarity for equality and justice for all. A wise man once said, ‘You can’t understand someone until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.’ The Unity Project is about shoes and community. We are looking for people of all ages to tell their personal story by decorating, deconstructing, painting, printing, or anything else you can think of to a shoe. The shoe can be a physical shoe used or new. It can also be a photograph, a shoe you create in your favorite drawing program, or 3-D design application. Still, it must inspire action, broaden awareness, deepen understanding, convey urgency, point to solutions, or illuminate the consequences of intolerance and inequities.
Huron Valley Council for the Arts will display the completed shoes in their fine art gallery (if safe) or photograph for a virtual exhibit. This call is open to artists anywhere. Please note that there is a weight limit of 25 lbs for hanging items, and hanging works cannot exceed 48 inches in any direction. If accepted, work must be hand-delivered, mailed at the artist’s expense, or emailed; unsold items must be picked up personally or will be sent back to you (your prepaid postage) at the show’s conclusion. Complete details and application here.
AND/OR participate in a community-wide collaboration for people of all ages, adding your unique vision described in this worksheet, which can be downloaded here: unityprojectartprojectrev.pdf.
